After several years with global offshore firm Harney Westwood & Riegels (Harneys), Laura Serwa Arthur joined Hunte & Co. in 2004, aligning herself with a firm that shares her philosophy that every client deserves personal attention and exceptional service. Ms. Arthur manifests this humanistic approach to the practice of law by remaining accessible and responsive to each client throughout the course of her representation, and beyond.
Her real estate-related work often involves conveyances of high value properties in the region, including luxury villas and high-end island resorts. In the area of banking and finance, Ms. Arthur has represented the BVI interests of parties in dozens of matters, including acting as BVI counsel for Unicomer Group during its $350 million international bond offering in 2017.
With more than 20 years’ experience in the BVI legal industry, Ms. Arthur understands that dealing with legal challenges can be stressful for her clients and maintains a strong commitment to helping them understand the process. Her greatest strengths lie in seeking and finding practical solutions to complex issues and in listening carefully to the intentions and desired outcomes of all concerned, particularly when drafting contracts.
A native of Barbados, Ms. Arthur spent her grammar and secondary school years in the BVI before moving to the United States to attend university and law school. Admitted to the practice of law in both the BVI and Barbados, she makes her home in Atlanta, Georgia, traveling between Atlanta and her Road Town, Tortola office on a regular basis.
Civic-minded and dedicated to her community, she has served in leadership positions with the BVI Bar Association and the Rotary Club Sunrise of Road Town. Ms. Arthur is an avid proponent of breast cancer research and awareness.
Laura is a notary public and commissioner for oaths.
