Carmilita is the newest member of Hunte and Co Law Chambers, who joined the team in 2025 but comes with a diverse background of legal experience in the British Virgin Islands and brings a wealth of experience in criminal, civil and corporate law that she has honed since her call to the bar in the BVI in 2018.

Carmilita is no stranger to the BVI, and her previous journalism career in the Territory has given her intricate knowledge and understanding of the BVI culture and current affairs landscape, knowledge that has served to enhance her relationship with its diverse communities.

As a dual jurisdiction Attorney, Carmilita started her legal career as an In-House Legal Counsel in Guyana for one of the largest construction companies, having worked on matters that include court challenges to contracts valued at US$100 million dollars and negotiating deals with international clientele in excess of US$50 million.

In the British Virgin Islands, Carmilita has made her mark as a criminal defence attorney with a deep passion for representing marginalised clients. She has represented clients in the Magistrate’s Court, High Court and Court of Appeal. She also represented clients on judicial reviews, real estate, family law and probate.

In recent years, she has transitioned into a niche area of cryptocurrency and is a Certified Cryptocurrency Investigator (CCI). She has completed several legal opinions to facilitate entities into the BVI virtual assets space. Her knowledge and experience also expanded to drafting and revising compliance manuals as well as conducting quality assurance reviews.

In her quest to expand her knowledge of the law, Carmilita has recently graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School with a Master’s in Canadian Common Law and is currently enrolled in the Law Society of Ontario Bar Licensing process.

Carmilita brings to Hunte and Co more than her legal expertise in BVI laws but an international lens of the common law along with her immaculate diplomacy, negotiating and communication skills.
